This course is open to woodwind, brass, percussion, and piano players with at least two years of ensemble playing experience on their instrument and who have the ability to read music. Students who do not meet these requirements may speak to Mr. Muñoz who may consider making an exception.
The intent of this instrumental music class is to advance students’ musical proficiency through the preparation and performance of standard concert band literature, chamber ensemble literature, and instrument-specific solo literature. The focus of the class is on full ensemble performance but individual playing is also emphasized. Music reading, sight singing, aural analysis, music history, and music theory all are part of the course as well.
Students are offered either an instrument-specific private lesson or group lesson every week within the context of the class. Students are expected to improve individually through these lessons as well as prepare and amass a modest program of solo and small ensemble music.
The full concert band ensemble performs several school concerts, community events, and festivals every year. In addition, its members perform in recitals as soloists or in small ensembles at least twice a year. The goal is to provide students with an opportunity to perform in large and small instrumental ensembles while building individual musical and artistic competency.

- Students are expected to demonstrate progress from week to week during a one-on-one or group lesson with their instrument-specific instructor

- Students are expected to evaluate live and recorded performances of professional, armature, and peer musicians
- Proficiency Evaluations
- Students are expected to demonstrate an understanding of the technical, historical, and theoretical musical concepts covered in class

- Full length black dress or full length skirt/pant and blouse combination
- Flat sensible black dress shoes (no flip-flops, athletic shoes or casual sandals)
- Black Suit (coat and slacks)
- White long sleeve button down dress shirt with a collar
- Black (long) neck tie – plain/no graphics
- Black dress shoes (no athletic or casual shoes)
- Black calf-length socks
