A Note From The Director
The 2022-23 school year is off to a promising start. We have had successful performances at this year’s Race for the Arts event, the school’s Homecoming Game, and of course our impressive Fall Concert, Ascend. McClatchy’s chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society has undertaken large fundraising and community outreach projects. Our digital music curriculum continues to engage the general education student population in exciting new ways. The program has started a volunteer choir made up of current instrumental music students and will re-initiating the choir class in the spring semester. We have had presentations by professional operatic soprano, Carrie Hennessey, and conductor of the Camellia Symphony, Christian Baldini. We will make a trip downtown to see Hairspray the musical and participate in a question-and-answer session with the cast. Most exciting of all, we will be touring Portugal and Spain during spring break. This promises to be our program’s greatest year.

2023 Spring Tour: Lisbon, Portugal to Madrid, Spain
Our program is traveling to Portugal and Spain over Spring Break! More than a sight-singing trip, the seven-day performance tour will expose our student musicians to European culture while they share American culture with European audiences. The trip is open to current students, their families, and alumni. The deadline to join this once in a lifetime experience is December 1. Contact director Jorge Muñoz at jorge-munoz@scusd.edu to receive details.
Stay Connected
In an effort to streamline communication between teacher, student, and family the McClatchy Music Program is now using the Remind App as it’s main form of digital communication. Instructions on how to join one of the Remind groups are found in the individual ensembles’ pages in the ENSEMBLES menu above.
